Our work is diverse in its scope, content and mode of delivery. It ranges from customised projects that mix desktop and field research, in-house and public workshops, consultations, capability assessments and general support. Projects are of all durations, from a few days to over a year.
We are used to working with clinical and scientific experts along with mixed ecosystem actors in diverse social, cultural, political, economic and disciplinary health system contexts.
Our clients are healthcare providers, private companies, NGOs, charities and foundations, universities, community groups, local, regional and national governments and international institutions. We have worked in over 20 countries worldwide yet strive to minimise our environmental impact on the health ecosystems we explore.
For the past ten years, we have helped our clients to define numerous complex health, social and economic system problems, reveal multiple novel opportunities, design product, service and system-level value propositions and shape winning technology, innovation and growth strategies.
We have done so by blending our advanced knowledge of early-stage innovation and design thinking methods with our understanding of complex ecosystem dynamics and principles. This is tailored to each engagement, meaning we design each enquiry to address your specific ecosystem, innovation and growth needs and challenges.
Chris is the founder of Umio and the creator of our Health Ecosystem Value Design® framework. Umio evolved from Chris' thirty years spent advancing innovation thinking, co-creation, system-level design and customer-focused strategy. In this time, he has interviewed and engaged with thousands of patients, clinicians, policymakers and other health ecosystem actors all around the world. An alumni of Cranfield School of Management, Chris was awarded the honorary position of Senior Fellow at UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities in 2019.
Gillian joined Umio with 14 years experience in medical device product and technology development within both private and public sector organisations. She began her career in Autoimmune and Allergy Diagnostics and developed a Cardiac Biomarker testing platform for remote healthcare management in the home setting. Gillian joined ITI Techmedia to oversee the development of a Point of Care diagnostic platform to aid in chronic wound management, a project undertaken by Umio. Following this, she was inspired to join us. Gillian has a BSc Hons degree in Medical Microbiology from the University of Edinburgh.
Most recently with Philips as a director in global marketing, Frank has over twenty years experience in the international Healthcare IT and Medtech industry. He has a successful track record of growing existing and building new businesses, and of leading cross functional international teams in sales, marketing, business development and engineering. Frank forms and leads international collaborations in health ecosystem value co-creation with actors from all contexts and backgrounds.
Jennifer brings a unique skill set at the intersection of brand, CX, digital, sustainability, innovation and design. She served as CX Principal and B2B Sector Lead for Forrester’s consulting practice where she helped clients drive revenue through customer centricity by synthesizing best practices in CX, digital, data and brand/marketing. Jennifer specializes in helping highly complex organizations with multiple stakeholder groups. Her former clients include Cisco, Johnson & Johnson, United Healthcare, Principal Financial, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Environmental Defense Fund, HP, McGraw Financial, and many others.
