Why us?

Umio helps UK service veterans and their families to overcome chronic pain, trauma, disability, isolation and other forms of distress to enjoy a better life.

We understand the challenges that leaving and former serving personnel face in civilian life, especially when struggling with pain and other forms of distress. That's why we have developed Umio, a unique app designed to assist veterans in reclaiming and expanding their lives.

With Umio as their digital companion, veterans can embrace a brighter future.

How the app helps

Rethink your pain and distress, discover and do more

Rethink your pain and distress, discover and do more

Getting unstuck from pain requires rethinking your outlook, being open to new possibilities and taking committed action. Umio helps you to accept your pain positively and drop the struggle. When you do, new opportunities for living the life you truly value come into view.

Find, meet and help fellow UK veterans

Find, meet and help fellow UK veterans

Umio connects you with other veterans having similar experiences. By encouraging, helping, and collaborating together, your team of veteran buddies becomes a valuable support system, offering listening ears and encouragement, no matter how long it's been since you left the service.

Understand your changing pain experience

Understand your changing pain experience

Umio contains a unique, advanced interface and supporting analysis tools that help you to record, recall and understand your everyday experiences. This allows you to discover previously hidden patterns and trends, set goals, take impactful actions, and access the help and resources you need.

As well as innovative pain and experience tools, Umio contains an evolving directory of pain and distress-friendly content, events, services and resources which you request, control and choose to participate in. You can also create your own activities or ideas and add them into Umio too.

Get beyond your service self

Finally, Umio helps you to rediscover your values and skills in ways that are not only beneficial to you and your pain, but also to others (with or without pain). By joining, you will discover new opportunities for creating a positive impact as an active, engaged citizen.

Veteran reviews of the advanced prototype

“I’m not a veteran that’s been out and done a lot of tours and got a lot of medals. It’s a strange feeling, like a bit lesser you know, but maybe the pain sharing, the pain and experience could equalise that, you know, you’re the same.”
Veteran Male John
John, ex-Navy, 44
“If this platform had been available, I’d have been all over it. I’d have been like, what else can I do that’s local to me? Who else can I chat to? What have they been doing that I could be doing? And what have I been doing that they could be doing?”
U085 Veteran FeMale Profile Margie P-1
Nadine, ex-RAF, 41
“If you get a little bit of a boost which something like this could create then that would help improve so many different elements of like your mental health, your well-being.”
Veteran Male Profile Dave
Dave, ex-RAF, 38
“It’s good that other veterans can see if you’ve been doing something and you’re in absolute agony and it’s made your mental health worse. You know, they can give you a message and say, oh, you’re all right mate?”
U085 Veteran Male Profile Mikey D Pic
Mike, ex-Army, 57
“It would be good to see what’s available locally, services and activities and people with similar injuries, abilities and service background, where I’m not going to turn up and everyone’s a marathon runner you know?”
U085 Veteran Male Profile Paul Gardener 2
Stuart, ex-Army, 62
