Framework

Health Ecosystem Value Design®

An ecosystem value design framework tailored for health

Through practical framing, deep enquiry and sophisticated understanding of health and ecosystem value, contexts, entities, interactions, dynamics and affects, our framework, services and tools will help you to:

Acquire a powerful novel perspective on health ecosystem value and its creation

Reveal real opportunities from deeper understanding of health, care and social systems, contexts and problems

Frame and evidence novel possibilities and propositions

Design and enact strategies and their emergence to meet goals and outcomes

Co-create health ecosystem interventions, programmes, technologies and solutions that have impact

Build cultures of health and the dynamic capabilities needed to sustain ecosystem value co-creation

Where we work

Typically, we work “upstream” to inform, design and shape ecosystem strategy, policy and programmes, business / care models, value propositions, technology and service concepts and organisational / ecosystem capabilities.

Doing so ensures that all downstream actions are catalysed by deeper understanding of ecosystem perspectives, opportunities, emergence and constraints.

The Umio Team

For the past ten years, we have helped our clients to define numerous complex health, social and economic system problems, reveal multiple novel opportunities, design product, service and system-level value propositions and shape winning technology, innovation and growth strategies.

We have done so by blending our advanced knowledge of early-stage innovation and design thinking methods with our understanding of complex ecosystem dynamics and principles. This is tailored to each engagement, meaning we design each enquiry to address your specific ecosystem, innovation and growth needs and challenges.

Chris Lawer, Founder

Chris is the founder of Umio, the creator of Health Ecosystem Value Design® (HEVD) and the author of the book of the same name. Umio emerged from the two decades Chris spent as an innovation and strategy consultant to companies and governments of all kinds and sizes throughout the EU and US. After a serious illness in 2006, he became increasingly bored with innovating paint, beer and razor blades, and decided instead to focus all his energy on the challenges of sustainable value-creation in complex health and care systems. Once a visiting fellow at Cranfield School of Management where he earned half a phD, Chris became a Senior Fellow at the Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities at UCLA in Spring 2019. Here, whilst continuing to lead Umio, he is actively applying his models and thinking to help address US community and national health system challenges.
